G’Day Ship Mates,

My name is: Roque Charles “CHINA” Hammal, and I have been assisting veterans and their families in dealing with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) since 1991.
In1997  I founded the Australian Navy in Vietnam Veterans’ Welfare Association of WA Inc and was with the WA Association until 2003 when I moved to Orange NSW.
Whilst I was residing in Orange, I remained passionate about continuing my advocacy service for veterans and so I established and founded the Australian Navy in Vietnam Veterans’
Welfare Association of NSW Inc.In 2005 I suffered some significant health issues which required a lengthy hospitalization period and I was not in a position to continue with the
NSW association and so it was closed. In 2006, my health had improved to a level where I could resume an increased workload with my advocacy services and I relocated to
Copacabana NSW where I re-established the association, but this time not as an incorporated one.

Sadly, the Australian Navy in Vietnam Veterans Welfare Association WA Inc was compelled to close its doors in 2020 due to the lack of volunteers to assist with advocacy and
welfare and the  ageing of the remaining volunteers to continue providing the same standard of service to veterans was jeopardized.

Whilst I remained close to the WA association, my focus was establishing the NSW association and providing free advocacy assistance and support to
veterans and their families wherever needed. The NSW Australian Navy in Vietnam Veterans Association was not eligible for any funding and all costs associated
with assisting  veterans and their families was borne by myself.
As the need to provide advocacy assistance has grown, this is no longer a viable option, and the need to become an incorporated association and apply for
funding from DVA was a natural and logical progression.  In February 2021, the NSW association became incorporated, albeit with a slight name change,
it is now officially known as the Navy Veteran’s Welfare Association of New South Wales Inc (Registration Number INC2100219).
I now request assistance
in seeking your support by way of membership to the Navy Veteran’s Welfare Association of NSW Inc as this will help spread the word to any of your ex-defence
associates that may need assistance in obtaining their DVA entitlements.  Membership is free and there are no ongoing costs involved.

Please find attachments: (1) An application to join the new association: (2) Certificate of Incorporation as an Association and (3) The Association’s constitution pdf

We hope that you decide to join the association as the stronger the data base the more we can achieve.

Remember, “Together We Achieve More”. Should you require any further information or discussion is required, please contact me by email roque.hammal@ymail.com or phone 042 045 8895.
