Minister promises client-focused service approach for veterans
 

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC, Stuart Robert, today outlined his priorities for the next 12 months for improving Government support and services provided to Australia’s ex-service community.
 

Speaking at the Legacy National Conference in Albury, NSW Mr Robert declared his intention to transform Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) processes from being claims focused to being people focused.

"In recognition of their service, Australia’s veterans have earned a special place in our society," Mr Robert said.

"We owe veterans and their families a debt of gratitude for their service and sacrifice, and that includes easy access to all the compensation and benefits to which they are entitled, along with vocational rehabilitation options and opportunities to enhance their health and wellbeing."

To this end, the Minister announced his priorities would be to streamline claims processes; upgrade and integrate IT systems; improve the transition processes for personnel leaving military service; provide vocational rehabilitation options to assist those who are able to return to the workforce; and ensure the ongoing availability of mental health resources and treatments.

Mr Robert said he admired Legacy’s extraordinary work over more than nine decades to support Australia’s veterans and their families through difficult times.

"I know it is of great comfort to our Australian Defence Force personnel deployed on operations to know that should the worst happen while they are serving our nation, Legacy and others, including the Government, will care for their families.

"Legacy’s role in ‘Keeping the Promise’ means that veterans’ loved ones will have help during tough times."
