70 years of international peacekeeping
In September this year, a National Service of
Commemoration will be held in Canberra to mark 70 years of
Australia’s involvement in international peacekeeping.
The commemorative service will be held at the newly
completed Australian Peacekeeping Memorial, Anzac Parade, on
Thursday, 14 September 2017 at 10.00am. The memorial will
also be dedicated during this service.
DVA is now taking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from those
who wish to attend this service.
While participating in the EOI process does not guarantee
you a seat at the service, it will give DVA an indication of
the number of people who wish to attend and allow us to plan
accordingly.
Please note that this is not a ticketed service and limited,
unallocated seating will be provided. Standing room will
also be available.
To express your interest in attending, please visit the
DVA Domestic Commemorations
page of the DVA website.

We’re conducting a review of Vetaffairs, and we’d like
to hear from you!
Vetaffairs is DVA's newspaper, which is distributed
quarterly to about 220,000 members of the veteran and
ex-service communities. It includes articles about
Government policies, programs and initiatives, with a strong
emphasis on mental and physical health and wellbeing.
DVA is interested in how to make Vetaffairs more useful and
relevant to the transitioning and contemporary ex-service
communities. DVA would like to know what information you
would find useful and how Vetaffairs could best deliver this
to you.
The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete
and your responses are anonymous.
Take our short survey here:

Belgium oak planting ceremony
A Belgium oak tree has been planted in the grounds of the
Belgium Embassy in Canberra in memory of Australian soldiers
who fought in Belgium during the First World War.
Planted by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Dan Tehan,
and His Excellency Jean-Luc Bodson, Ambassador of Belgium,
the oak tree is situated alongside a plaque bearing the
names of Private James Mollison and Private Beaumont
Philpott, the first two Australian soldiers to die during
the First World War in Belgium, on 17 June 1916.
On 26 September 2017, with the assistance of Belgian
authorities, Australia will honour the service and sacrifice
of those who fought in the Third Battle of Ypres at a Dawn
Service to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of
Polygon Wood. The battle resulted in 5,770 Australian
casualties.
The service will be held at Buttes New British Cemetery,
which is the site of the Australian 5th Division Memorial.
For more information about the service please visit the
overseas commemorations page of the DVA website.
