Local community commemorative projects receive a boost

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Dan Tehan today announced that 55 community projects honouring Australia’s wartime history would receive more than $145,000 in funding.

Mr Tehan said the projects, funded under the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service grants program, would honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who serve in defence of our nation.

“These grants help communities across the nation build and preserve memorials and undertake activities that teach younger generations about Australia’s wartime history,” Mr Tehan said.

“These projects are unique to the communities where they originate but they all embody the spirt of the Anzac legend and the values of courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice.”

Up to $4,000 is available for an individual project under the Community Commemorative Grants category of the program. This is a rolling grants program, so applications are accepted at any time.

“I encourage interested groups and organisations to review the grant guidelines and to submit a request for funding to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs along with the requested supporting documentation,” Mr Tehan said.

A list of grant recipients in each state is attached. All figures are GST free.

For more information about the Saluting Their Service program, contact the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Commemorative Grants team on 1800 026 185 or email commemorativegrants@dva.gov.au.
